About COuNTER-terrorism Protect and prepare

lockdown in schools

PROTECT

PROTECT is part of the UK Government's Counter-Terrorism Strategy (CONTEST) and relates to strengthening protection against terrorist attack.  Martyn's Law is also known as the 'Protect Duty'.  In the context of education this is not about building fortresses, rather, it's about thinking through proportionate measures to safeguard your communities -  including staff awareness.

PREPARE

PREPARE is also part of CONTEST and relates to mitigating the impact of a terrorist attack.  In the context of education this is about ensuring you have effective incident response policies and plans in place, that your staff understand these policies and plans and have the necessary training to implement them.  This is also about ensuring that your plans are tested regularly.

Protection from terrorism protects against a range of threats: from criminals to aggrieved parents or students in crisis. Don't be put off by the word terrorism"
